Course Overview:
Learn the skills of a Crime Scene Investigator ...
Explore the exciting world of the
Forensic Investigator in this unforgettable interactive experience day.
You will spend the day using real forensic methods and techniques to perform a selection of crime scene investigations. All investigations are "hands-on", giving you the opportunity to learn how these procedures work in real life.
Your day will include:
Learn how to lift and record fingerprints. Record a copy of your own fingerprints for you to keep!
Learn the art of forensic microscopy and the use of different magnifying powers to identify and record "suspect" samples.
Analyse and identify human hair samples and identify the suspect's hair against other crime scene samples collected.
Microscopically examine soil samples collected from the suspect's shoes and identify against other soil samples collected at the crime scene. Use chemical tests to confirm.
Perform a drugs test! Simulate a positive test for cocaine using established reagent colour change methods.
Identify tools used in the crime. Create clay impressions of a range of tool heads and compare with known impressions to identify the culprit.
Blood spatter analysis. Create your own blood spatter and chemically develop the pattern for viewing with a UV light source.
Extracting DNA - follow a hands-on extraction procedure.
This list is not exhaustive and may include additional or alternative practical sessions on the day, depending on group dynamics.
